Things That Were Once Loved

Things that once held value. Things we cherished.

Objects we spent time with―things that lifted us, comforted us, inspired us.

But as time passes, even these are forgotten and discarded...

In this work, I breathe new life into clothes and industrial materials that were once needed but have since become waste. By assimilating them into the rich, natural beauty of Mount Rokko, their hidden charm is rediscovered. What was once overlooked becomes something to admire again―transformed into works of art that resonate with memory, time, and place.

Japan is said to discard over one million tonnes of clothing each year. This piece invites viewers to reflect on the environmental impact of mass consumption, while also appreciating the beauty of nature and the preciousness of limited resources.

Visitors to Rokko are encouraged not only to view the artworks and photographs but also to seek out the landscapes where they were taken. I hope the experience will spark new awareness―of the land, of what we leave behind, and of the quiet beauty that emerges when the forgotten is given a second life.
