Visual artist exploring garments and the body
BUTTERFLY DREAM TOKYO 2020
TOKYO CREATIVE SALON - Borderless
3rd Floor, Mitsukoshi Ginza Department Store
Six Looks: Digitally printed polyester
This work is a poetic and immersive installation in which clothing and space blend together to create a dreamlike experience, inspired by a famous allegory from the ancient Chinese philosopher Zhuangzi.
The concept originates from The Butterfly Dream, in which Zhuangzi dreams he is a butterfly, only to awaken and question whether he is truly Zhuangzi who dreamt of being a butterfly―or a butterfly now dreaming he is Zhuangzi. This parable blurs the boundaries between dream and reality, self and other, suggesting the fluidity of identity and the elusive nature of existence.
The work also serves as a meditation on the transience of life, evoking a sense of impermanence and fragility. Through the fusion of garments and space, the piece invites viewers to lose themselves in a world where distinctions dissolve, and the line between reality and illusion becomes beautifully uncertain.
