THE MEMORIES OF INDIA 2020
MILAN FASHION WEEK – off-schedule show,
I Chiostri di San Barnaba, Milan, Italy
Fabric swatches, souvenir sari, ribbon scraps
This collection was inspired by my trip to India long ago.
New Delhi, Kolkata, Agra… I travelled to many cities and took a lot of inspiration from this powerful and future-filled country.
Hindu and Muslim temples, ancient castles renovated into hotels, colourful folk costumes like saris,
The colour of the sky, the smells of the hustle and bustle, the cows walking leisurely down the road…
Everything was different and exciting from the world I live in.
Now that COVID-19 has passed, I’m reminded of how wonderful it is to be able to explore the world again.
Remembering my journey to India, I completed this collection by combining various materials, including Indian fabrics.
80% of the materials used were made from waste or eco-friendly sources within the fashion industry.
In particular, I also used fabric swatches originally created for designers by textile companies. These swatch books―filled with real fabric samples―are often mass-produced as promotional materials and later discarded. In this collection, I gave new life to those tiny fabric pieces by incorporating them into my designs.
