Recycled jute bags, leftover suit fabrics, old kimonos, corozo buttons
Boro is a traditional Japanese garment made by patching old kimonos, originally worn by poor farmers to survive harsh winters. Inspired by this, I created a collection using sustainable materials such as recycled jute coffee bags, leftover suit fabrics, old kimonos, and corozo nut buttons.
The patchwork reflects iconic Japanese urban culture―business suits, school uniforms, graffiti―that originally came from Europe but were transformed uniquely in Japan. This collection presents a dialogue between European influences and Japanese reinterpretation.
Photographed in Shibuya, where traditional temples coexist with modern skyscrapers, the setting mirrors the fusion of old and new in the garments. The model’s silver wig evokes a futuristic figure, reminiscent of Japanese animation characters with ambiguous identity.
